You just received an envelope or email with your "SPECIAL ANGEL ASSIGNMENT." Now what? Please, read over and see what you now need to do.
1. READ OVER THE ASSIGNMENT
Get an idea of the person likes, what they can and can't receive, favorite colors, etc. Be sure not to buy everything in their “favorite color”. Put things on a note to have with you when you go shopping. You may see that "something" just for your person. Also, be careful on sending a lot of Angel stuff.
2. TIME TO SHOP!
Now that you’ve learned about your assignment, it’s time to shop. If you are shopping for a child, try to get things within their age group. PLEASE, when shopping for cards, BE CAREFUL ON GET WELL SOON cards. We have some with serious things going on with them. Get well cards may not be suitable. Try encouragement, dropping in to say, HI!, here’s a hug, etc.
3. TIME TO MAIL
Now that you have a few cards and gifts, time to start mailing. You should try to mail a card and/or a gift EACH week. You do not need to spend a lot on the gifts. One could be as simple as a bookmarker, one week with a card. On special occasions, you probably won’t to spend more. . On the first time, you may want to get delivery confirmation to be sure that there has been no mistake in the address and that it gets to the right place. When sending your first card or package to your new assignment, send a brief letter telling about yourself. Of course, you probably don’t want to tell everything the first time. Save something for later. When you send anything, be sure to sign you name, send nothing anonymous, write or put a label on envelope "Your Special Angel Mail". We want them to know they are safe when opening this and it's from us. You might want to even put a few stickers on the envelope to make it exciting to receive before they even open it. PLEASE, nothing negative. When writing anything, keep it upbeat and positive. If you've had a bad day, don't share that. We are supposed to be encouraging them.
PLEASE REMEMBER; do not expect anything in return from this person. That I mean, as no thank you notes, no response of any kind. They are to respond to our check-in with them but this is all. These should be about once a month. If you need an update on your assignment, please contact us and we will give you what we know at that time. If you do hear from this person, that’s just an added blessing for you. I promise you, it will be a thrill. Just remember some of these people are just trying to survive so they are putting all efforts into getting better and some just aren’t up to it, that’s why you are sending them things to encourage them to get better or just not to be as lonely.
Hope this helps you. If you have any other questions that we have over looked, please contact us.
